Assignment 8A: Solving the Problem
My opportunity that I presented is very common in the nation and it is one of the top leading causes for deaths in a year. Texting while driving has taken the lives of too many people and has projected danger on innocent people. Texting and driving is not only sending a text, it is whenever the driver is not completely focus and engaged in the driving, switching music or glancing down at the phone are still equally as dangerous as sending a text.
My solution would be another setting on every phone model that detects when someone is driving and instead of asking the driver if they are driving, to automatically enable the setting. Apple already has a setting that allows calls and texts to be silenced when driving but the setting asks the individual if they are driving before to enable the setting. The driver can easily say no and begin to text and drive. In addition to the new software I would like states to begin requiring a course on texting and driving and listen to people who have been affected by this dangerous act.
Hello Jaylynn,
ReplyDeleteI think that the problem you have chosen to address is definitely a meaningful and serious problem that unfortunately is very common here in the United States. Your solution is very effective if the driver is the only one in the car, however I can see how this could become an issue for passengers in the car or if you are in an Uber/Lyft. By automatically enabling a driver setting on the phone, it would make passengers in the car a little annoyed as they wouldn't be able to check their phone and they aren't even driving. This also presents an issue for Uber/Lyft drivers who rely on the maps function of their phone to arrive at the proper destination. Maybe if the driving setting on the phone strictly turned off notifications for social media sites and text messages, this would address the preferences of passengers and keep drivers focused on the road. Overall, I think you are onto something and I look forward to seeing how you progress the solution to this issue. Nice post!
