You
I am a 19-year-old college student at the University of Florida. I am majoring in Public Relations at the College of Journalism and Communications and minoring in Innovation at Innovation Academy. I am active in multiple clubs on campus and am certified in software like Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Photoshop InDesign and Illustrator. I aspire to make any business that I pursue successful.

What are you offering to customers?
This would be offered to anyone who has a license and drives. It targets mainly the younger generation since they have not been driving as long as people who are 50 have. Younger generations are more tempted to try and see if they can focus while driving.

Why do they care?
People will actually buy this product because the amount of injuries and deaths due to distracted driving has increased. It is much more common today to see people distracted while driving. This app will come included with whatever device the customer has.

What are your core competencies?
This product is different from any other product because it lessens the user’s control over the way he or she can use the phone while driving. It will allow things like map and emergency calls to be accessed but the customer will not be able to use the phone normally.

I think that the 5 elements of my business concept fit together well. I believe that there is a target audience and an opportunity available. The aspects that could be worked on is making sure it is not too similar to other apps/services that have already been made. I think that with time and research, the business concept could be very successful.

  1. Hello Jaylynn,
I think your background working with software such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Photoshop will allow you to become more successful in developing your app. There also is not much competition in this area so your core competencies will allow your company to distinguish itself from potential competitors down the road. You did a great job identifying your target market, although I do believe that (at least in the beginning) your consumers will likely be an older demographic purchasing the app for themselves or their children. I can see how the younger demographic may be hesitant to the idea at first because they aren't as aware of the issue of distracted driving.

  2. Hey Jaylynn,
I thinks its awesome that you are in the innovation academy here at UF. The product you have proposed is a great idea and targeting it towards younger generations is smart given their increased use of technology when compared to older generations. Do you have a specific strategy to penetrate the market? Massive companies like Apple and Microsoft seem to have a start on this issue. How do you plan on stealing some market share so that you can turn a profit.
